The 2023-24 season of the Saudi Pro League kicks off on Saturday (12 December), adding to the excitement of the summer transfer market.
The Saudi Pro League is the league where record-breaker Cristiano Ronaldo moved to midway through last season. This summer, the league has begun a full-fledged superstar recruitment drive, starting with 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, followed by N’Golo Kante, Robert Firmino, Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez.
스포츠토토 Al Ahli v Al Hazem will kick off the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League season tomorrow (Saturday 12 December) at 3am and will be available on SPOTV Prime and SPOTV NOW.
Al Ahli will be highlighted by the presence of Riyad Mahrez, Robert Firmino, Edouard Mendy and Alain Saint-Maximilien, who all play for different Premier League clubs.
The most anticipated match of the first round of the Saudi Pro League 2023-24 season will be the clash between Al Etihad and Al Nasr on Tuesday 15 January, kick-off at 3am.
Al Etihad’s Gerrard and Henderson ⓒ Al Etihad
Since the appointment of ‘Liverpool Legend’ Steven Gerrard as manager, Al Etihad have brought in former Liverpool captain midfielder Jordan Henderson and Lyon striker Moussa Dembele. Can Al Etihad, who haven’t won the league since 1987, show a different side under Gerrard?
Al Nasr, who finished second last season despite having Ronaldo, have strengthened this summer with the signings of Mane, Marcelo Brozovic and Alex Telles. It will be interesting to see if Al Nasr, who are challenging for the league title for the first time in five years, can capitalise on their ‘storming recruitment’, while Ronaldo, who scored 14 goals last season despite joining midway through the campaign, can become the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League.
Al Ittihad will start the season in a stronger position with the addition of Benzema, Kante and Fabinho. Defending champions Al Ittihad, coached by Nuno Santu, who previously coached Son Heung-min at Tottenham Hotspur, have brought in three players with experience of winning big in the UEFA Champions League to challenge for a second successive year. Al Ittihad will face Al Rahda in the opening match of the competition, which kicks off at 0:00am on Tuesday 15 January.
