Only the finals remain. The 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) final is a big match between the United States and Japan.

The United States advanced to the final with a 14-2 win over Cuba in the semifinals on the 20th, and took a day off. Japan was drawn to Mexico in the semi-finals on the 21st, but Murakami Munetaka’s come-from-behind double in the ninth inning on first and second bases made it to the final with a dramatic 6-5 victory.

In the last four tournaments, the MVP has come from the winning team. In the first tournament in 2006, Japan won the championship, and Masuzaka Daisuke (3 wins, undefeated 13 innings, 2 runs, ERA 1.38), who became the winning pitcher with 4 innings and 1 run in the final, won the MVP.

Japan also won the championship in the second tournament in 2009, and Daisuke Matsuzaka won the MVP for the second consecutive time with 3 wins and an undefeated ERA of 2.54.

In Japan, Shohei Ohtani is a strong MVP candidate. Ohtani is also active in the WBC as he doubles as a pitcher.
