KT Cuevas, who has been on an “undefeated streak” since returning to the KBO stage in June, showed off his terrifying stuff against Lotte yesterday (27).
Relying on a fastball that topped out at 148 kilometers per hour and a sharp slider, the right-hander struck out six in the eighth inning to hold the Lotte bats to six hits and one run.
Cuevas extended his win streak to eight games without a loss in 12 starts this season and a 10-game winning streak dating back to last year.
Holding on to a lead they took on Hwang Jae-gyun’s RBI single in the third inning, KT swept a three-game weekend series against Lotte with a 2-1 win.
On the other hand, leader LG suffered a devastating three-game loss to NC.
Starter Lim Chan-gyu was ejected in the first inning for throwing a head shot at NC’s Park Gun-woo, and the LG bats could only manage two runs in the sixth inning against NC starter Choi Sung-young, eventually falling to a 5-3 defeat and closing the gap to KT by four and a half games.
Third-place SSG saw closer Seo Jin-yong record his first blown save of the season, but Jeon Eui-san’s grand slam in the 10th inning kept them within a game and a half of KT.
KIA won its fourth straight game to stay in fifth place, beating Hanwha behind Choi Hyung-woo’s RBI double off Hanwha’s Moon Dong-joo in the sixth inning with the score tied at 2-2.
Samsung beat Kiwoom for its second straight win behind seven scoreless innings from starter Won Tae-in.
