The Korea Baseball Softball Association will dispatch the Baseball 5 national team to the ‘2023 Youth (U18) Baseball 5 Asia Cup’ held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from the 8th to the 11th.
A total of 7 countries will participate in this tournament, the first age-specific tournament of the Baseball 5 event held in Asia, and Korea will compete to win the Asian Cup with China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India and Singapore, including the host country Malaysia.
The Korean national team will play the first qualifying match against Malaysia, the host country, on the 8th at 11:45 am (Korean time), and the second qualifying match against India at 15:30 on the same day. The 5th match against Hong Kong at 10:30 am on the 10th, the last day of the preliminary round, and the 6th match against Singapore at 15:30 are scheduled. This tournament, which will be held on February 11th through the preliminary round results, the super round and the final round, serves as the Asian qualifier for the ‘2023 WBSC Youth (U18) Baseball 5 World Cup’, and the top three teams, including the winning team, are given the right to participate in the World Cup do.
Baseball 5 is a new sport in which five people form a team using a rubber ball in a space of 18m in all directions, so-called ‘fist baseball’.
Accordingly, the association held a representative selection match at Songgok High School Gymnasium in Seoul on January 28 to spread and revitalize Baseball 5 and organize players to win the Asian Cup.
